Hobbiton is definitely a nerd fest right from the start your guide gets a sense of how much of a LOTR and Hobbit fan you are by asking three questions. From there our guide Sunny took us through the picturesque Hobbiton and offered us some excellent Hobbit triva. I learnt that the tree that appears for only about 8 seconds was made of fibreglass and is composed of leaves made of silt from Taiwan. The leaves faded so Peter Jackson had 5 art students repaint all 367,000 leaves which tools them 4 days. Its a cool tree though. I guess you get a sense of how much pride Peter Jackson takes in the detail and staying true to the books. I did enjoy the refreshing ale which is made especially for Hobbiton! Fiona went for the cider! The best thing is we had the whole place to ourselves for the entire tour instead of 500 people on site there were just the 25 of us...they normally have 650,000 people through in a year and had just had permission pre covid to take 1,000,000 people through Hobbiton. Kiwis should make time to head to Hobbiton right now you will not get a better time to see the place. We enjoyed our tour and were easily able to spend time taking photos and wandering at leisure! What are you waiting for just get there now!
