Mount Holdsworth / Te Mata Peak / Maraetotara Falls

Stayed the night at Mount Holdsworth which is a Doc Campsite and is a great spot to park up with plenty of space.  There a many walks ranging from a couple of hours to all day.  We decided to head out early morning and do a 1.5 hour walk as we were moving on.  We did one of the Gentle Annie tracks called Rocky Lookout.  It was a nice walk and very well maintained.

After leaving Mount Holdsworth we decided to head to Havelock North and make our way towards Te Mata Peak.  However on the way we got hungry and decided to stop at the Tui Brewery for a bite to eat and a photo with the famous Tui Bilboard!

We finally arrived at Te Mata Peak about 3.30pm and they have amazing facilities and well maintained tracks and signage to ensure those of us who are directionally challenged don't get lost. We decided to do the blue circuit which was called Rongokako Trail. It is 5.5km but in the 28 degree heat felt like 20km. Man it was hot. Stunning views again when you make your way up. A great walk and I would recommend it to anyone who is in the Havelock North area.

Last stop for the day was Maraetotara Falls which is a nice little swimming hole and has some waterfalls as a bonus.  The water is bloody cold but after you get going its not to bad.  There was a rope swing which you could jump from and land in the water below its a reasonable drop but good fun.  Had a crack 3 times and enjoyed them all.  Got bitten by sand flies here so maybe use some spray before you head in.
