Putangirua Pinnacles / Cape Palliser Lighthouse / Castlepoint

Our first visit for the day was to Putangirua Pinnacles which are seen in the Lord of the Rings. For some reason we didn't get that close to them and it seemed a bit of an anti climax walking to the lookout and viewing them from a far.  However the coastal loop back to the campsite was stunning and the views were amazing.

We then made our way towards Cape Palliser and on the way came across Ngawi which had a whole lot of old tractors  and bulldozers roadside which still work and are used to load the fishing boats into the water.

After leaving Ngawi we came across a large fur seal colony.  There were many young pups and the all seemed to be having a good time.  They seemed to be not to worried about people and just went about keeping cool in the water.

After finishing at the seal colony we made our way to Cape Palliser Lighthouse which has 252 steps to reach the lighthouse itself these certainly got the heart pumping but straight forward enough.  The view up the top is stunning and of course the lighthouse itself is very cool.

Onto Castlepoint which is a stunning holiday home location with an amazing beach and of course another lighthouse. We didn't stay here but kinda wish we had and enjoyed the beach the next day. Stunning views up at the lighthouse and would recommend you visit this great location.
