Lake Pukaki & Fairlie

We arrived in Lake Pukaki late at night and decided to drive through it and stay at Lake Wardell Rest Area Overnight Campervan Parking. It was an awesome spot and reasonably busy, it is great for freedom campers like us with plenty of space and the cleanest toilet facilities.  The next morning, we headed back into Lake Pukaki and went on the Kettle Hole track which gives stunning views of Lake Pukaki and is an easy 40 min walk through some doc land.

We then headed down to the Lake Pukaki vistors centre and took some pictures of the Sheep Dog Statue and the lake looking towards Mount Cook.

We headed to Fairlie and freedom camped at Lake Opuhua - Opuha Gorge Road where we were the only Van in the picnic area for the night.  Next morning, we drove back to Fairlie to visit the much talked about Fairlie Bakehouse which boasts to have the best pie in NZ.  The pie was good, but I wouldn't say it's the best in NZ in my humble opinion.  While in Fairlie we did the Opihi River Track which I would have to say was one of the more boring walks I have done in NZ but still great to get out amongst it and do some walking.
